Our strategy is simple: If the law is an obstacle, let’s change it.
In 2021, our co-founders, former California state senator Joe Dunn and former rock drummer turned music executive Samantha Maloney started to blaze new pathways for survivors finally to hold their predators accountable.
Back in 2002, as a state senator in California, Joe Dunn successfully authored legislation to open one of the first ever civil child sexual abuse windows in the country. Since then, Dunn has become the country’s leading expert in legislative strategies for survivors’ rights, leading or assisting window legislation in 2019 for child sexual abuse survivors in New York, New Jersey, Arizona and California. In 2021, Dunn and Maloney were the strategists behind AB 2777, the Sexual Abuse and Cover Up Accountability Act, the first ever window legislation passed for adult survivors of sexual assault in California to hold their predators and the institutions behind the cover up accountable.
More recently, CA Governor Newsom signed AB 250, legislation that reopens the adult sexual abuse window for another two years beginning January 1, 2026. Survivor Strategies co-founder Samantha Maloney testified in favor of AB 250.
Survivor Strategies continues to focus their efforts in California and in other states in which the laws have systematically failed victims of sexual and employment abuse.
